This was my first foray into drawing a girl and her horse. I managed to achieve the fluid movement of the two. In real life, they are a perfect match. Husband said it was one of my better ones recently. I gave it to Chiara and she said she loved it.

Lady of the Lake

This is a mix of CP and graphite. The graphite was used to generate the shine and depth in the water on the right. The water drops on the leaves was a challenge and also to get part of the leaves to appear to be submerged.

Macaws

I drew these Macaws from a beautiful photograph from the Reference Image Library on WetCanvas. The amazing thing about this drawing was that it was sold long before the drawing was finished.

I wanted the birds to appear high up in the canopy and thus the photo was modified to give this appearance.

I had permission from the photographer, Monte, to draw these birds. In this I kept the background sky simple as the palms were so busy. The entire work in progress can be found in this thread on WetCanvas.

This drawing was exhibited at Yellow Springs Art Show Pennsylvania 2009 and was sold.

My friend Terry, went to Kenya and shot a beautiful photograph of this cheetah family. He gave me permission to use it as a reference. The sky and plains in the background were not in the reference and were added in such a way to elevate the cheetah family higher than they were in the original image. Fuschia - CP and Graphite

My original drawing of this fuchsia was graphite which I colored over with CP. Some of the original depth of the graphite has been lost in translation.

Hosta - CP and Graphite

I am still in the process of experimenting with CP. As this was in the early days of my experimentation and as my previous experience was comprised primarily of graphite drawings, I decided to start with graphite as a grisaille and then layered over the top CP. It lacks depth, the colors are dirty and it could have had several more layers of CP pigment.

I was learning the response of the paper to pigment. The paper here is Strathmore Drawing Medium and the colored pencils are PrismaColors. This drawing strikes me as though I lack confidence.

Indian Portrait

This was an experiment with monochromatic colours using Derwent Drawing pencils: Chocolate, Brown Ochre, Ivory Black, Venetian Red, and Yellow Ochre. It is comprised of many layers of these pencil colors. I felt that it almost worked.

First foray into colored pencil

This was my first attempt at coloured pencil. It is less than desired as a CP but it spurred me into further experiments. I did manage to capture the warmth of the light on the bird even if he is a little fat.
